Park Aclaim

Following his storming finish in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, Aclaim (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) has less on his plate as he tackles a far-from-strong edition of Doncaster’s G2 Alan Wood Plumbing and Heating Park S. on Saturday. Just a half length off Brando (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) when runner-up in that 6 1/2-furlong Deauville feature on Aug. 6, last year’s G2 Challenge S. winner sets the standard on that form and trainer Martyn Meade is confident. “On the form of his last run, he goes there with a big chance,” he said. “The ground should be in his favour. He came into his own in the autumn last year and hopefully he’ll do the same this season. He’s in great form, hopefully he’ll run a big race and it will leave him right for the [Oct. 1 G1] Prix de la Foret on Arc day at Chantilly.”

Godolphin’s seven-furlong specialist Home of the Brave (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) took the G3 Criterion S. at Newmarket on July 1 before finishing second to Breton Rock (Ire) (Bahamian Bounty {GB}) in the G2 Lennox S. at Goodwood on Aug. 1 and the former’s trainer Hugo Palmer is hoping the rain stays away. “He hasn’t done much wrong this year and ran a really good race at Goodwood, fighting all the way to the line to see off a few horses, including a Group 1 winner in Limato,” he explained. “To be fair to him, apart from when we ran him over the wrong trip at the Breeders’ Cup, I think probably his last disappointing run was in this race two years ago. We’re hoping the ground is going to dry out. If they get any more significant rain, we would probably give it a swerve. He’s run some good races when the ground has been on the soft side of good, but he does not want it soft and tacky.”
