‘TDN Rising Star’ Paradise Woods (Union Rags) will look to punch her ticket to the GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff in Saturday’s ‘Win and You’re In’ GI Zenyatta S. at Santa Anita.
Little has gone right for Paradise Woods since her jaw-dropping 11 3/4-length GI Santa Anita Oaks Apr. 8 romp, however, finishing 11th after setting a blistering pace in the GI Kentucky Oaks and finishing sixth after stumbling at the start as the 1-5 chalk in Del Mar’s GIII Torrey Pines S. Aug. 27. The bay, favored at 6-5 on the morning line here, has been working bullets since, including a six-furlong spin in 1:11 3/5 (1/33) in Arcadia Sept. 23.
“She had a bad experience in the race at Del Mar,” Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella said. “It was just a bad day and we’re trying to get it out of our head and run in the Zenyatta. She’s doing great, working great and looks great.”
Shenandoah Queen (Henny Hughes), Faithfully (Smart Strike) and Motown Lady (Uncle Mo), one-two-three in Del Mar’s Tranquility Lake S. Aug. 25, line up again here.
