Saint-Cloud: Prix Cleopatre (Group 3) 1m2½f, 3yo fillies
LITTLE NIGHTINGALE (Mikel Delzangles/Umberto Rispoli) got the better of the five million guineas filly Al Naamah in a head-bobbing finish to this Classic trial.
The two fillies both hold Investec Oaks entries, and William Hill cut the winner to 20-1 (from 33), though she can still be backed at 33-1.
For much of the Saint-Cloud straight Al Shaqab’s mega-money purchase looked like winning, but on her seasonal debut she was caught in the final few strides by her race-fit rival.
There was not much between the two in the pre-race betting and a neck separated the 7-4 shot and the 11-8 favourite at the line.
The other Al Shaqab-owned runner, Shahah, took the field along, with Little Nightingale on the inside of Al Naamah, the duo sitting second and third.
At the top of the straight Al Naamah took over, but Little Nightingale kept responding right to the line, suggesting the extra trip at Epsom would be in her favour.
