Champagne Fever: no bigger than 10-1 to win the King George

KING GEORGE hope Champagne Fever will clash with Sizing Europe in Thursday’s Clonmel Oil Chase, trainer Willie Mullins said on Saturday.

The seven-year-old, who finished second in last year’s Racing Post Arkle Chase, was this week installed at 5-1 to beat 5-4 favourite Sizing Europe in the midweek treat.

It will be his first run since the Punchestown festival in May and Mullins thinks Sizing Europe’s race fitness could see those odds justified.

He said: “The plan is to go there. Sizing Europe has the benefit of a run, so that’s going to make him tough enough to beat. I imagine our fellow might need the run, but we may as well get the season going.”

Champagne Fever is no bigger than 10-1 to win the King George VI Chase at Kempton next month.
