JOCKEY Joao Moreira believes Able Friend will live up to his billing as one of the top horses in the world when he tackles the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.
Trained by John Moore, Able Friend is 5-2 second favourite for the opening contest at Ascot after a string of impressive performances in Hong Kong, most recently when cantering to victory as 1-4 favourite in the Group 1 Champions Mile.
Able Friend needed minimal encouragement to defeats his rivals at Sha Tin, after which Moreira could hardly contain himself as he handed out hi-fives in the winner’s enclosure.
Moreira is also in line to ride Australian contender Brazen Beau in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the final day of Royal Ascot but it is Able Friend that has got him most excited.
“He’s the best horse I’ve ridden, he’s just outstanding,” Moreira told TDN. “He’s the easiest ride, he is just so uncomplicated. He goes to sleep, and then you ask him to quicken and the response is instant.
“Is he the best horse in the world? I think so, he’s just a dream horse to ride – every jockey wants a horse like him. Hopefully he can take his best to England and the world can see how good he is.”
Solow, winner of the Dubai Turf and Prix d’Ispahan this season, is the 7-4 favourite for the Queen Anne Stakes.
