MICK CHANNON on Sunday praised his team and the three triumphant fillies who provided the yard with a notable international black type treble on Saturday.
Epsom Icon kicked off the 1,204-1 three-timer for Channon by landing the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom, before Czabo captured the Listed Prix des Lilas at Deauville and Divine the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at the Curragh.
Channon, who also saddled Harlequeen to finish a fine third in the Oaks on Friday, said: “We’re always trying to win black type with these fillies and in this case we had three very nice fillies for the races.
“It’s about trying to find the right races with these horses and when it came to Czabo the office staff found the race for her, and I said stick her in and we’ll see. Everybody played their part and sometimes it all comes together.
“We’d had bad luck in-running the day before and then on Saturday it all fell right. We’re trying all the time, we’re not that clever to plot these horses out. It was just the right races for the right horses.”
Team in form
Channon, who watched the action unfold at home before heading to a party, has his team hitting form at just the right time with Royal Ascot on the horizon, and is naturally hoping the good form continues.
“We’ll have a few in the handicaps at Ascot that I’m looking forward to, like Harrison and Elidor, and hopefully they’ll all put in good runs and we can grab a winner or two,” the trainer added.
Channon’s weekend got even better on Sunday afternoon when his two runners at Goodwood, Billy’s Boots and Arnold Lane, both won, making it five winners from five runners over the course of the two days.
