Killavullan Stakes (Group 3) 7f, 2yo
MAKING LIGHT produced an impressive performance to beat the colts and enter the equation for next year’s Classics.
Dermot Weld’s filly was sent off the 3-1 joint-favourite on the back of an eight-length maiden win at Limerick and justified punters’ confidence with a smooth display under rider Pat Smullen.
Spirit Of Valor finished a length behind in second, while Taj Mahal finished a neck behind his Aidan O’Brien-trained stablemate in third.
Weld said: “We’ll head to the Classic trials next year and that will tell all. She’s a lovely filly and won that easily. Hopefully she’ll progress and we can give her a Classic campaign.
“I’d say her trip would be a mile, maybe a mile and a quarter. She’s a genuine, lovely filly.”
An impressed Smullen said: “She’s improving. That might not have been the strongest Killavullan but she quickened well and was impressive.
“There’s a lot to look forward to in the spring.”
