ADAM KIRBY will miss the whole of York’s Ebor meeting after he was given a 19-day ban by the BHA on Thursday under the totting up procedure.

Kirby is riding high in the jockeys’ title table this season having ridden 81 winners prior to Thursday’s meeting at Sandown but he now faces two lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Six days of Kirby’s ban will be deferred for six weeks until October 8 in addition to the suspension which will run from August 15 until August 27 inclusive.

The disciplinary panel held an enquiry into Kirby’s use of the whip on board Es Que Love in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. The matter was referred to the BHA by the stewards following an enquiry on race day because it was Kirby’s fifth offence of misuse of the whip, warranting a suspension of between two to six days, in the last six months.

The panel accepted Kirby’s admission that he was guilty of misuse of the whip in that he had used his whip in the incorrect place.

In deciding on the length of suspension the panel considered the number of rides (522) and the period of time during which the suspensions had occurred. It also took into account that Kirby had previously been referred to the panel for misuse of the whip within the previous 12 months.
