To celebrate Stable Staff Week, groom Jagdish Bansode writes a daily diary in the lead-up to Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse as he helps prepare Time Test

Groom Jagdish Bansode
Age 38
Working at Roger Charlton’s 8 years
Favourite memory Al Kazeem winning the Prince of Wales’s Stakes

I LOOKED after Al Kazeem throughout his whole career at Beckhampton and he won four Group 1 races for me. He’s retired to stud again but I’m now lucky enough to look after Time Test, who I hope can win his first Group 1 in the Coral-Eclipse on Saturday.

I started work at 6.30am today and my first task was to check all was well with Time Test and that he had eaten his breakfast. Happily he had finished it all.

I then looked at the riding-out board to see which horses were going out first lot and which horses needed to be put on the walker. Time Test was going on the walker, so I put him on there, along with four other horses, for half an hour while I mucked out their boxes.

At 7am I groomed and tacked up Time Test so head lad Steve Raymont, his regular work-rider, could give him a routine canter. I always want to get a full debrief after work and was glad to hear Steve was very happy with the horse.

After exercise I washed Time Test and took him for a pick of grass, which is something he loves. Once he’d safely returned to his stable I checked all the horses had hay and fed them.

I finish work at midday and then return at 4pm, when I look after my three horses. I hope the weather is nice so I can take them out for another pick of grass.
