THE Bavarian Classic, a major trial for the German Derby on July 5, is normally run at Munich but had to be moved to Hanover this year because of a clash of fixtures.

It has usually been a good guide to Derby prospects and Quasillo (Andreas Wohler/Eduardo Pedroza) is joint-favourite for the Hamburg Classic and will almost certainly start at odds-on here.

The well-bred Sea The Stars colt has only run once, but scored in highly promising fashion on his debut over slightly further at Munich a month ago.

Eastsite One (Christian von der Recke/Alexander Pietsch) finished eleven lengths behind him then, but with his stable in good form, can be expected to be much closer this time.

Ajalo (Waldemar Hickst/Stephen Hellyn), the only one of the six runners without a Derby entry, was runner-up to another Wohler hotpot in the Busch-Memorial and in theory at least brings the best recent form to the table.

Local hope Iraklion (Christian Sprengel/Wladimir Panov) won a Munich maiden by five lengths last time and is next best.
