France: Western Hymn fourth as Gailo downs rivals

Report: France, Friday

Deauville: Prix Guillaume d’Ornano – Haras du Logis Saint-Germain (Group 2) 1m2f, 3yo

JOHN GOSDEN’S Derby sixth Western Hymn could manage only fourth behind the front-running Gailo Chop (Antoine de Watrigant/Julien Auge) in Friday’s valuable Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville.

The son of Deportivo, who bagged a couple of Group 3s at Longchamp before heading to the States for last month’s Belmont Derby which he was fourth in, was sent into an early lead by Auge and powered away in the final stages to beat Free Port Lux.

Prince Gibraltar, placed at the highest level in the Prix du Jockey Club and Grand Prix de Paris on his last two starts, was third, while Western Hymn plugged on for fourth having been held up by William Buick.
