BET365 halved Fly With Me to 20-1 for the Ascot Gold Cup in June following a cosy neck victory under Maxime Guyon in the Group 3 Prix de Barbeville at Chantilly.

The Eric Libaud-trained stayer found plenty in the closing stages to wear down favourite Candarliya near the line with Trip To Rhodos back in third.

Settled in mid division, Fly With Me, who won the Listed Prix Right Royal at Maisons-Laffitte at the start of the month, travelled well under Guyon and made his move on the outside of the field as the pace quickened turning into the home stretch.

Alain de Royer-Dupre’s Candarliya took a while to quicken up though led the field inside the final half furlong, only to be headed late on by Libaud’s six-year-old, who is a proven consistent performer in the stayers’ division in France.

All of Fly With Me’s victories have come with ease in the ground so his Royal Ascot bid may well be ground dependent, but if it were to be on the soft side in June, the likeable grey, who is a best-price 40-1 chance with SkyBet and BetVictor, could run a big race.

German raider Alex My Boy, formerly trained by Mark Johnston, made little headway from the rear and finished eighth while Prix du Cadran winner Mille Et Mille disappointed on his return, finishing tenth.
