France: Amulet runs a blinder to take second

Report: France, Tuesday

Chantilly: Prix Isola Bella (Listed) 3yo+ fillies and mares

AMULET showed once again her liking for Chantilly when running on strongly inside the final furlong under Thierry Jarnet to snatch second for Eve Johnson Houghton, having filled the same spot here in a similar contest last month.

The race went the way of the German-trained challenger Coco Sun (William Mongil/Theo Bachelot), who avoided plenty of the scrimmaging which went on behind by taking the early initiative, before striking for home at the two furlong marker.

Jarnet wasn’t able to see daylight until once the winner had kicked clear but Amulet made up plenty of ground to pass Godolphin’s Raphinae in the race for second.

“She has run another fantastic race and was a little bit unlucky because the winner had the run of the race,” said Johnson Houghton. “If she could have got out when she wanted to she might nearly have won. We’re thrilled with her and, as she loves the [soft] ground and handles the travelling, we’ll be looking to come back next year.”

Coco Sun was only making her seventh start and looks open to further improvement, having found only the Alex Pantall-trained Dancing Sands too good in a Cologne Listed race at the end of September.
