PLENTY of equine stars have drawn comparisons to aeroplanes at Ascot down the years but it was a real one that took centre stage on Saturday as a light aircraft made an emergency landing on the jumps course.
Firefighters were called to the racecourse as the aircraft made the unexpected arrival at around 6.30pm.
All four passengers were safely disembarked and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there was no sign of a fire.
“Everything was straightforward; they landed and the plane was repaired,” said clerk of the course Chris Stickels.
Police were also called to the scene and a spokesman said: “The plane landed at Ascot Racecourse at about 6.30pm. According to our log, the pilot and passengers were not injured.”
The emergency landing came a fortnight before Ascot once again plays host to the Red Bull Air Race.
