Champions Return For Simple Verse

Classic winner Simple Verse (Ire) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}), who was last seen trailing in last in the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on June 22, is aiming for a return in the G2 Long Distance Cup on Qipco British Champions Day on Oct. 14, according to trainer Ralph Beckett. The 5-year-old mare won the G1 St Leger and the G1 Qipco British Champions Fillies and Mares S. two years ago, and has not seen the winner’s enclosure since the G2 Park Hill S. on the Leger undercard last year. The Qatar Racing colourbearer was scratched from the G1 Goodwood Cup on Aug. 1 after suffering a muscle injury.

“She has just taken a while to get over the muscular issue she picked up in the run-up to the Goodwood Cup,” said Beckett. “There is really little point trying to rush her. She won’t be ready for the [G1 Prix du] Cadran, as that is only a few weeks before. It is a shame, but we have got just under six weeks to get her ready for Ascot.”

Simple Verse finished third in last year’s Long Distance Cup.
