DAVID CASEY will ride Clondaw Warrior for the first time in Sunday’s StanJames.com Greatwood Hurdle, as a field of 17 were declared for the Grade 3 handicap.
With Ruby Walsh riding Hurricane Fly at Punchestown, Willie Mullins has turned to Casey for the seven-year-old, who will be having his first start over hurdles for the yard.
A best-priced 11-2 chance, Clondaw Warrior won the Irish November Handicap on his last start, but has not been hurdling since last August. Daneking, the other possible Mullins-trained runner, was one of four horses scratched on Friday morning.
Sam Twiston-Davies will ride the returning Pearl Swan for Paul Nicholls, while Nick Scholfield will be on Katgary.
Scholfield, writing in his blog for Western Morning News, said: “He was disappointing at Aintree last time, but hopefully he can put that behind him.”
Phil Middleton has stuck with conditional Charlie Deutsch for leading contender Exitas, while Jason Maguire will ride Goodwood Mirage for Jonjo O’Neill.
The Listed Shloer Chase could be a cracker, with Module, Dodging Bullets, Uxizandre and Simply Ned all featuring in a final field of six.
At Punchestown, the StanJames.com Morgiana Hurdle is the highlight, with Princess Leya the only absentee for the Grade 1, leaving Jezki to face Hurricane Fly, King Of The Picts, Lethal Weapon and Little King Robin.
