Big Orange Out Of Irish Leger

G1 Gold Cup winner Big Orange (GB) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}) has been removed from consideration for Sunday’s G1 Irish St Leger due to the soft going and further expected rain. Therefore, a rematch with last year’s Gold Cup winner and this year’s second Order Of St George (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is off. Big Orange will be rerouted to the G1 Prix du Cadran on Arc weekend on Oct. 1.

“Given the prevailing ground conditions of yielding to soft, I’m afraid we won’t be running,” trainer Michael Bell told At The Races. “There’s little point in playing away from home on a surface that doesn’t suit. He’ll now go for the Prix du Cadran on Arc weekend. Every time I’ve had runners over that weekend it’s always been pretty decent ground, so it’s fingers crossed for the same. He’s been lightly campaigned and he’s a very easy horse to train and keep fit because he’s so clean-winded. He makes life relatively easy.”
