Caulfield: New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (Group 1) 7f, 3yo+, turf

BLACK CAVIAR’S trainer Peter Moody looks to have another superstar on his hands as Dissident dismantled his opposition to win the first Group 1 of the season by two and a quarter lengths.

Sat in third by Ben Melham, Dissident tracked the Gai Waterhouse-trained pacesetter Sweet Idea and 4-1 stablemate Moment Of Change, who was ridden by Luke Nolen, before kicking clear of his rivals in the home straight.

While Sweet Idea held on for second at 7-1 under Craig Newitt, with a head back to the Brad Rawiller-ridden and Darren Weir-trained 7-1 shot Puissance De Lune in third, Moment Of Change faded through the field to finish last. 16-5 favourite Boban finished fifth for Chris Waller and Glyn Scholfield.

The Randwick Guineas winner was successful at the highest level for the second time at odds of 11-1 and his trainer told Fox Sports: “The world is his oyster. He just put a quality field to the sword. He was a terrific three-year-old and mixed it with the best of his age. He’s trained on since then.”

The Cox Plate is the colt’s long term target, but having disappointed in the Rosehill Guineas in his only try beyond a mile doubts remain over the colt’s ability to get the trip in the 1m2f Group 1.
