ALLEZ COLOMBIERES, one of Willie Mullins leading lights, has been put down as a result of the injury he sustained in the Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

Rich and Susannah Ricci’s four-year-old had pulled up suddenly early on in the Grade 1 when jockey Ruby Walsh felt something amiss in his hindquarters. The horse was visibly lame and distressed and was taken back to the stable yard for examinations in the horse ambulance, where it was found he had broken a bone in his pelvis.

The saddened trainer said: “He was put to sleep. He broke a bone in the sacroiliac region, the pelvis, and it cut the iliac artery. He was bleeding internally and was in a lot of discomfort.

“It can happen any time a horse breaks a bone. It was very clear cut in the end, the vet said they’d done everything they could and they couldn’t save him.”

Allez Colombieres had been sent off favourite for the Royal Bond bringing with him from France a mighty reputation after three bumper wins. He was a leading fancy for the Skybet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle before the race, quoted at 8-1 favourite with several firms.
